Is premium residency permanent or does it need renewal?
Premium residency is not permanent and requires periodic renewal. The residency is typically granted for a fixed period, after which the holder must apply for renewal to maintain their status. Renewal depends on meeting the ongoing eligibility requirements set by the authorities.
Can I include my family (spouse and children) in my Premium Residency application?
Yes. When you apply as the primary applicant, you can list your spouse and dependent children on your application. Once the application is approved, all listed dependents receive Premium Residency.
However, those family members must already be inside Saudi Arabia and either registered under your Iqama (i.e., residing as your dependents) or holding a valid visit or tourist visa to qualify. In the latter case, valid medical insurance must be purchased to meet the Premium Residency criteria.
Will I still have to pay expat levies or obtain exit/re-entry visas with Premium Residency?
No. Premium Residency holders keep their expat status and perks but gain additional freedoms. You are exempt from expat-related levies (for example, you no longer pay the annual SAR 4,800 fee per dependent), and you do not need exit/re-entry visas to travel abroad.
In effect, Premium Residents are not counted under the Saudization (Nitaqat) quotas and can travel freely without employer permission.
Can I start and fully own a business in Saudi Arabia as a Premium Resident?
Yes. Premium Residency allows you to establish and own your own company under Saudi investment laws. You can start a business and hire employees (including foreign workers) with no fixed limit on staffing.
In other words, you do not need a Saudi partner or sponsor to run a business – you can operate independently as a PR holder. (Note: you still must meet any licensing or investment requirements for your industry, but PR status itself removes Saudization and sponsorship constraints.)
